Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has been recognized as the leading global leader in artificial intelligence (AI). Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, in an exclusive interview, introduced Macron as someone whose approach to artificial intelligence has been particularly influential.

Macron's Intellectual Approach to Artificial Intelligence

Altman stated in the interview: "The person that comes to mind is the President of France." He added that Macron has been paying attention to the topic of artificial intelligence and its future for a long time and has deep thoughts about its formation. This recognition is particularly important for Macron as he is striving to promote the safety of artificial intelligence on a global scale.

Challenges Facing Macron and Upcoming Elections

Macron, who is nearing the end of his second presidential term, cannot participate in the upcoming elections scheduled for April 2027 due to existing laws. Meanwhile, Marine Le Pen, the far-right candidate in France who is leading in the polls, has taken a different approach to artificial intelligence and is inclined towards policies that reduce oversight of this technology.

The National Rally party, led by Le Pen, also intends to reduce dependence on foreign technology companies and is looking to revive a plan to create a national wealth fund to finance French technology companies like OVH and Mistral. Some members of this party have even threatened that French investments in American technologies, amounting to 80 billion euros, will be repatriated.

Macron's Diplomatic Initiatives in Artificial Intelligence

Macron has also been a major supporter of the French artificial intelligence lab Mistral and is set to host the annual "Paris Peace Forum" next month. This conference, one of his favorite diplomatic projects, addresses the safety of artificial intelligence and the risks of technology for children and adolescents.

Altman's interview was published in the Monday edition of "Decoded," which examines global technologies and their impacts on personalities, political changes, and policy battles. This program is also available as a daily podcast.
