Socialism is clearly gaining popularity in the United States. According to the latest polls, 43 percent of Americans have a positive view of socialism, the highest level since Gallup began tracking this metric in 2010. This poll, conducted from August 3 to 24, shows that socialism has progressed over time despite the declining popularity of some market economic concepts. Currently, socialism has surpassed large businesses in terms of popularity, which has dropped to 35 percent.

Party Differences and Changes in Views

While capitalism and economic freedom are still more popular than socialism, the positive rating for capitalism has now decreased to 55 percent. Economic freedom has also decreased from its peak of 89 percent in 2012 to 77 percent. However, small businesses remain the most popular economic system at 95 percent.

Party differences in this regard are very clear. Democrats view socialism significantly more positively than Republicans, and their views have improved over time. This change has been particularly observed following the victories of leading candidates and Democratic Socialists in several key Democratic primary races. The election of Zahra Mammadani as mayor of New York last year is considered a milestone for Democratic Socialists in America.

Political Implications and the Future of Socialism

Other leading victories in the primaries include Senate candidates Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan and Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota. These victories reflect dissatisfaction with the Democratic establishment and the youth's desire to elect charismatic Democratic Socialist candidates. Republicans are trying to portray these victories as evidence of the Democratic Party moving to the left, while Democratic leaders are attempting to downplay concerns about the party's direction.

However, changing public views in America may indicate an increasing acceptance of ideas that were once considered political red lines. Additionally, while socialism has increased among Democrats and independents, polling results show that most Republicans remain skeptical of it.
