Avara Sala, a Member of the European Parliament from the European People's Party, warned against the use of American technologies in Ukraine during a seminar in Brussels on Thursday, September 16. She stated that the speed limitations imposed on the military services of SpaceX's Starshield in Ukraine is "another example of a kill switch" that has directly led to casualties on the battlefield.

Consequences of Using Foreign Technologies

Sala pointed out that "we are losing many lives in Ukraine," emphasizing that the defense discussion depends on technology. She added, "This issue concerns our defense, as defense is reliant on technology." These remarks come as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced in her speech on September 16 that Europe does not need to be a developer to leverage advanced technology.

The Necessity of Developing Advanced Models in Europe

Sala further stated that Europe needs advanced models to have a place in discussions regarding the development and safety of artificial intelligence technologies. She referenced warnings from the French advanced laboratory Mistral, which indicated Europe's inability to shape artificial intelligence without a leading player in developing advanced models.

This Member of the European Parliament also emphasized that to build advanced companies, there is a need for capital and a more integrated market. She called for the establishment of uniform rules regarding bankruptcy and taxation, as well as investment in cross-border pension funds, citing the financing of weapon development by Danish funds in Romania as an example.

Avara Sala's statements at this seminar reflect her and other representatives' deep concerns about the consequences of using foreign technologies in crisis situations and the need to strengthen Europe's domestic capabilities in advanced technologies.
