Barzani today, Tuesday, referring to the aggressions of the United States and the Zionist regime against Iran on February 28, 2025, announced that with the onset of regional conflicts, this region closed its border with Iran and stationed forces along it.
Barzani's Position at a Meeting in Erbil
In a meeting on the sidelines of the "Meri Forum" held by the Middle East Research Institute in Erbil, Barzani said: "Iran is our neighbor, this war is not our war, and the Kurdistan Region will not become a platform for threats against Iran." He noted that no armed group should be allowed to threaten neighboring countries from the territory of the Kurdistan Region. Barzani emphasized that such actions are internationally rejected and prohibited under the laws and constitution of Iraq.

Response to Regional Tensions
Barzani emphasized that the policy of the Kurdistan Region from the very beginning of tensions between the United States and Iran has been to keep Kurdistan completely away from this war. He noted that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has had daily communication with Baghdad and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Despite political differences, Kurdish parties and Baghdad agree on strategic issues and have cooperated to protect the Kurdistan Region.
Anti-Iranian groups have had camps in the Kurdistan Region for decades. Earlier, some sources reported that two drones targeted a camp known as "Freedom" belonging to separatist groups in the "Koya" area east of Erbil. These attacks reflect the ongoing tensions in the region and efforts to prevent the Kurdistan Region from becoming a base for threats against Iran.
