Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, and Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, will join next week's state dinner with President Donald Trump and China's leader Xi Jinping. This event, which will take place on September 24, is expected to be a significant summit, with artificial intelligence likely being one of the main topics of discussion. The invitations have been sent out amid concerns in the AI industry regarding the potential and dangerous impacts of this technology on humanity.
Importance of Artificial Intelligence in Discussions
The presence of these CEOs at the White House indicates that artificial intelligence will likely be at the center of the leaders' discussions. Altman, whose attendance at this summit has been confirmed, did not announce a specific goal for the meeting but referred to his recent statements that if Trump and Xi Jinping reach an agreement on artificial intelligence, they could be nominees for the Nobel Peace Prize. Meanwhile, Huang has also confirmed his attendance but has not disclosed his objectives for the summit.

Debates on AI Development
Amon, whose attendance has been confirmed by a Qualcomm spokesperson, stated that he will represent the company and "the leadership power of American technology on a global scale." Meanwhile, Anthropic did not respond to requests regarding the invitation, and spokespeople from major companies like Google, Meta, and AMD also did not provide immediate comments on the requests. This summit comes as some AI industry activists are urging the two leaders to take measures to prevent the rapid development of advanced models.
Altman and Huang have differing views on this matter. Altman recently supported Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call to slow down AI development and stated in an interview with Fortune magazine that Trump and Xi should set standards for building and testing advanced AI models. In contrast, Huang, similar to Trump, has called concerns about the dangers of AI "hysterical" and is personally working to allow the sale of advanced AI chips from Nvidia to China.
President Trump has repeatedly invited tech executives to participate in his summits with Xi. Last May, he invited a group of 17 business leaders to China for talks with Xi, with Huang receiving an invitation at the last minute.
