Chuck Grassley, the senator from Iowa, on Friday urged the Trump administration to finalize its proposed law to limit kratom sales. Kratom is a plant that has opioid-like properties and is easily purchasable in stores and supermarkets. Grassley, expressing concern about the dangers posed by this plant, strongly urged officials to take immediate action.
Risks and Side Effects of Kratom
Kratom is recognized as a quasi-narcotic and can have serious health consequences. Some users have reported that using this plant leads to anxiety, increased heart rate, and even dependence. Grassley, pointing to these side effects, said: "All types of kratom are dangerous and should not be sold in any public place." He also criticized the sale of this substance in gas stations and vape shops, emphasizing that these locations should be prohibited from selling kratom.
Call for Immediate Action
Senator Grassley, highlighting the importance of public health, called for the finalization of Bill 708, which seeks to limit the sale of this plant. He expressed hope that the government would act swiftly to prevent further dangers. This request comes amid growing concerns about the negative impacts of kratom on society. Grassley stated: "The relevant agency must act as soon as possible and implement this law. The health of the people must be a priority."
Recent research has shown that a high percentage of kratom users have sought treatment due to the adverse side effects of this substance. As a result, this request from Grassley is seen as a necessary step to protect the community from the dangers of illegal drug use.
