Several bridges in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, have been closed due to new Russian drone attacks that have resulted in one death in the city. Kyiv city officials stated that these measures were taken following yesterday's attacks.
Closure of Main Bridges in Kyiv
According to reports, there are eight bridges connecting the western and eastern banks of the Dnipro River. Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kyiv, announced that the southern bridge of the city, also known as the Pivdennyi Bridge, has been completely closed to traffic. This bridge, which carries road vehicles and a metro line, has been targeted by Russian drone attacks twice in the past two days.
Additionally, the Paton Bridge has been closed towards the left bank of the Dnipro River. The Russian Ministry of Defense has stated that its drones have targeted a bridge over the Dnipro used for military purposes. The ministry also mentioned attacks on a power station in the Kyiv area as well as the Izmail port near the Black Sea and a cargo ship.
Consequences of the Attacks
Russian attacks on Kyiv have also resulted in one death and at least two injuries from an attack on a 25-story building in the Darnytskyi district. Since the beginning of the invasion in February 2022, Russia has regularly conducted nighttime attacks on Kyiv. In response to these attacks, Ukraine is developing interceptor technologies to shoot down these combat drones.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Volgograd region in Russia announced that Ukrainian drone attacks have damaged the industrial infrastructure of the region. An apartment building was also damaged in these attacks, resulting in one injury. Officials in the Krasnodar region of Russia also reported that drone debris damaged a "company" in the city of Tuapse.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, announced in a post on the social media platform X that Ukrainian forces have attacked oil facilities in the Samara and Volgograd regions in the past 24 hours. He also stated: "Successful operations were carried out in the Black Sea and in the regions of Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Samara, and Krasnodar targeting objectives including airports, industrial facilities, oil refineries, a missile and space center, and an ammunition depot belonging to the occupiers."
The Ukrainian military has attacked Russian oil refineries over the past year to disrupt the country's energy industry. Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, announced on Thursday that Russia has lost 1 percent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) due to Ukrainian attacks.
