The Houthis killed 14 people and injured over 300 in a series of deadly attacks on Riyadh International Airport. These attacks occurred as tensions between Saudi Arabia and Houthi rebels in Yemen have sharply escalated, and Riyadh Airport remains closed.

Consequences of the Attacks on Riyadh Airport

Following these attacks, King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, one of the busiest airports in Saudi Arabia, was suspended, and about 60% of scheduled flights on Monday were canceled. Additionally, 99.7% of flights were halted yesterday due to these attacks. This situation has led to widespread flight cancellations across Saudi Arabia, with over a third of scheduled flights nationally expected to be canceled.

International airlines, including the Lufthansa Group from Germany and Air France-KLM, have suspended their services to Riyadh. Furthermore, the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States has advised American airlines to exercise caution when flying to or over Saudi Arabia.

Retaliatory Attacks and Reactions

In response to these attacks, Saudi Arabia has conducted heavy airstrikes in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a. The Houthi Health Ministry reported that these bombings resulted in one death and 12 injuries in the area. Meanwhile, Houthi Health Ministry spokesperson Anis al-Subaihi stated that one of the attacks on a salt factory in the Hamdan area killed one man and injured eight others.

The Houthis have also warned Saudi Arabia of further attacks, emphasizing that airports and Saudi airspace are considered legitimate targets. The group stated that it has targeted Saudi airports and energy facilities using missiles and drones.

China has also expressed concern over these attacks, calling for dialogue and resolution of disputes through negotiation. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning condemned these attacks and stressed the need to prevent escalation of tensions in the region.

International organizations and various countries are deeply concerned about this situation and the potential consequences of these conflicts for regional stability and global security.
