Donald Trump, at the site of the construction of the White House ballroom, analyzed the results of the U.S. midterm elections and stated that the war with Iran was a factor in the Republicans' defeat in this election. He also responded to criticisms directed at him regarding this issue and emphasized that this war has temporarily caused an increase in gasoline prices.
War with Iran and Its Impact on Election Results
Trump, in response to reporters' questions, stated: "I think this is largely true because it has raised gasoline prices in the short term." He continued: "But at the same time, if I have to do it again, I will do it; because in the long term, this is the only answer. You cannot allow Iran to have nuclear weapons."
The former president also expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Pentagon and Peter Hegseth, the head of the Pentagon, stating that he would not dismiss him under any circumstances. Trump referred to cooperation with the Democrats and warned that their efforts to impeach him could lead to the destruction of the Democratic Party.
Reactions to Election Results and Political Future
J.D. Vance, the Vice President, in a lengthy post on the social media platform X, analyzed Republican voters and said that many of them voted for Democrats out of anger over the war. Vance emphasized: "The reason for our defeat is the war" and added that a frank conversation about this issue should begin.
Mike Johnson, the representative from Louisiana and the current Speaker of the House, is unlikely to run for minority leadership in the upcoming elections. Additionally, Jim Jordan, the Republican representative from Ohio, is expected to announce his candidacy for minority leadership.
As the new congressional sessions begin on January 3, attention is drawn to the Democrats' oversight of Trump's foreign policies and their impact on Ukraine and Russia. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, expressed hope that the new Congress would continue to support Ukraine and apply more pressure on Russia.
Trump also assured his supporters regarding his behavior on social media and his recent comments about the elections, stating that "he is still your president" and publicly released this message.
