Reviewing advancements in artificial intelligence
The European Commission will provide updates on artificial intelligence policies at the EU and international levels during this meeting. Additionally, a technical session will be held to review recent incidents in the field of artificial intelligence. Members of the AI board, which includes representatives from all member countries, regularly convene to monitor the progress of European artificial intelligence legislation.

This meeting follows repeated calls from prominent company leaders, such as Dario Amodei from Anthropic and Sam Altman from OpenAI, to slow down the development of artificial intelligence. U.S. President Donald Trump quickly dismissed these requests, calling AI safety warnings a "hoax" and arguing that slowing down development would allow China to get ahead in this area.
Global cooperation on artificial intelligence
European discussions on global cooperation will focus on the work done in the G7, G20, and the United Nations. One diplomat stated that these discussions could help establish global standards for artificial intelligence.
While the European Commission seeks to create global laws for artificial intelligence and international cooperation, Hanna Virkkunen, the European Commission's Executive Vice President for technology governance, has recently called for these laws. She also noted that the EU has a law regarding the assessment and mitigation of risks posed by artificial intelligence, but this does not apply globally.
Brando Benifei, the main representative of the European Parliament on artificial intelligence, also urged the European Commission on Tuesday to strive for global cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence. He emphasized the need for international collaboration and highlighted the importance of working with the United States and China.
