Germany has withdrawn from participating in the FIFA Under-15 World Cup being held in Azerbaijan due to concerns regarding the development of young players. The German Football Association (DFB) announced that this decision was made consciously and feels that holding such tournaments for players at this age is not appropriate.
Development of Young Players in Germany
The German Football Association stated in a statement: "At this age, our identification and development process is still ongoing, and therefore, we do not believe it is appropriate to name a fixed team for an international tournament at this stage." This decision reflects Germany's more cautious approach to youth development, while in some leagues like the Premier League, there are no regulations regarding the play of young players.
In the Bundesliga, players must be at least 16 years old, and prior to the 2020-21 season, players could not receive professional licenses before the age of 17 and 6 months. This change allowed Youssoufa Moukoko to play for Borussia Dortmund the day after his 16th birthday, making him the youngest player in the league.
Challenges from Early Entry into Professional Football
Although some believe this cautious approach is incorrect, Youssoufa Moukoko's story can serve as a warning. Due to his good performances at the youth level, he was quickly called up to the German national team, but now at 21, he is facing challenges in gaining playing time and scoring at his loan team, Korum, in the Turkish Super League. Players under 16 are also not allowed to have agents according to FIFA regulations, but this issue is poorly regulated in some parts of the world.
This approach in Germany contrasts with the decisions of other countries. Germany is one of 22 countries that have declined the invitation to this tournament. The United States and Ukraine are also among the countries that have refrained from participating in these competitions for sporting reasons. These decisions have been made due to concerns regarding war and international tensions.
Currently, the tournament titled "FIFA Under-15 World Cup and Festival" is taking place and includes eight-team matches with a 20-minute first half and several other technical changes. This event gives players from different countries the opportunity to compete against each other and gain new experiences.
Ultimately, the presence of the Russian national team in this tournament could bring about significant controversies. This is while Germany's withdrawal has been due to sporting issues and not because of Russia's participation. However, this matter will certainly attract a lot of attention.
