Greg Stanton, Vice President of BYD, in an interview highlighted the geopolitical challenges and trade barriers facing the company on its path to becoming the largest automaker in the world. BYD, recognized as the largest manufacturer of electric vehicles globally, sold 4.6 million cars in 120 countries and regions last year, generating revenue of $111 billion.

Geopolitical Challenges and Trade Barriers

Stanton mentioned the threats present in global markets during the interview, stating: "Every day we are faced with headlines reporting tariff increases. This news can impact our business. In Europe, policymakers are trying to protect their legacy automakers by imposing tariffs. However, this issue is more influenced by political concerns than economic ones."

He also referred to the recent decisions by the European Union regarding restrictions on imports of hybrid vehicles from China, saying: "These actions could significantly reduce our market share. As a global company, we must consider that hiring local staff and creating jobs in host countries can help alleviate these concerns."

Technology Development and BYD's Future

Stanton emphasized the innovative technologies at BYD, stating that the company is developing solid-state batteries that could lead to a significant leap in the performance of electric vehicles. He also noted that BYD is expanding its activities into new areas such as robotics and data centers.

Despite the existing challenges, BYD continues to grow and aims to become the largest automaker in the world by 2030. Stanton stressed that this goal requires more than doubling current production, and to achieve it, the company must focus on foreign markets. He added: "Given the decline in the automotive market in China, our reliance on international markets will increase."

In conclusion, Stanton emphasized that BYD must respond more cautiously to data transfer issues and security concerns. He said: "We are ten times more cautious than other companies in this area and use foreign technologies to ensure data security."
