The Houthis of Yemen attacked Aden International Airport on Wednesday morning. The Yemeni Ministry of Transport announced that the group used ballistic missiles and bomb-laden drones.

Details of the Attack on Aden Airport

Aden International Airport is the main international gateway to Yemen outside Houthi control. Reports indicate that a missile struck near the airport runway just minutes before a flight from Cairo was forced to divert to Jeddah. Additionally, two planes on the runway were moved to a safer location due to concerns about further attacks.

Claim of Attack on Riyadh Airport

Yahya Sari, the military spokesman for the Houthis, stated in a statement that the group also targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh with several drones. However, there has been no immediate confirmation from the Saudis regarding this attack. Additionally, another Houthi ballistic missile was intercepted and destroyed by the Saudi-led coalition in northern Riyadh.

These attacks come as fighting has intensified on several fronts in Yemen. Government forces, backed by Saudi Arabia, have launched a counter-offensive against the Houthis, while the Yemeni rebel group has made territorial gains along the Red Sea coast in recent weeks.

Counter-Offensive Operations of Government Forces

Government forces, with air support from the Saudi coalition, have initiated a rapid operation to reclaim territory along the Red Sea coast. This operation successfully resulted in driving the Houthis out of areas around the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the city of Mocha, which had been captured by them last month.

Other Claims by the Houthis

In a separate statement, Sari said that the Houthis targeted Abha International Airport and an airbase in Khamis Mushait with ballistic missiles and drones. It is still unclear whether these attacks are related to the missile that the coalition claimed was intercepted near Khamis Mushait. Saudi officials have also not yet confirmed the attack on Abha Airport.
