IG Metall Union President, Christiane Benner, strongly criticized Gernot Dollenr, the CEO of Audi, for his presence alongside Donald Trump, the former President of the United States, at a campaign rally. Benner described this action as "deeply shameful, politically unacceptable" and "unworthy of Audi and its employees." She also accused Dollenr of violating Audi's political neutrality rules.

Criticism of Violating Political Neutrality Rules

According to Audi's code of conduct published in April and signed by Dollenr, the company is prohibited from public appearances with parties or politicians who are in electoral competition, and from supporting their events in the three months leading up to elections. Benner stated that this violation of rules could affect Audi's credibility and the trust of its employees.

Details of Audi's Factory Project in Georgia

At the same campaign rally, Trump announced plans for the construction of an Audi factory in the state of Georgia, which is dedicated to the annual production of about 200,000 vehicles, primarily large SUVs. Benner emphasized that this project still requires approval and the final decision "rightfully and significantly" must be made by the Volkswagen supervisory board. She added that employee representatives are seeking guarantees for German sites and a clear strategy for North America from Volkswagen and Audi.

Benner, referring to the importance of the U.S. market, stated that IG Metall's priority is to preserve job opportunities in Germany, and this issue must be considered in future planning. These criticisms come as Audi and Volkswagen seek to expand their activities in international markets, and such criticisms may impact their strategies.

Meanwhile, two senior German political figures, Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, are traveling to Asia, but following different paths. These trips aim to strengthen economic and diplomatic relations with Asian countries.
