Israelis will head to the polls on Tuesday to determine the political fate of Benjamin Netanyahu, the country's Prime Minister. This election comes after the terrorist attacks on October 7, 2023, by Hamas and the war in Gaza.
Election Date and Political Situation
From 7 AM to 10 PM local time, Israelis can vote for their representatives in the Knesset. This election is seen as a test for Netanyahu's leadership and the willingness of Israelis to change course amid instability. Poll results indicate that the outcome of the election is highly uncertain.

Political Parties and Electoral Alliances
Two main coalitions are competing to form Israel's next government. The first coalition includes the Likud party led by Netanyahu and far-right parties. The second coalition must be led by Isaac Herzog, Netanyahu's main rival, who has promised to abolish military exemptions for ultra-Orthodox men.
Netanyahu hopes to continue his premiership with the support of Donald Trump, the former President of the United States. In a televised speech, he referenced Trump's support and stated that he is ready to take actions to address the threat from Iran. Trump enjoys high popularity in Israel.
Challenges Facing Netanyahu
Netanyahu may face not only the continuation of his leadership but also an international arrest warrant for charges related to the military campaign in Gaza. Domestic criticism of his decisions on October 7, which led to the deaths of over 1,200 people and the abduction of around 250, has increased.
Additionally, public anger over military exemptions for ultra-Orthodox communities, which have resulted in a shortage of soldiers in the army, is influential in this election. Final election results are expected by October 30, with official results to be announced on November 4.
After polling stations close at 10 PM, local media expect to broadcast exit polls. President Herzog will refer the election winners to party leaders to select the preferred Prime Minister and will ask the strongest candidate to form a government within 42 days.
