The Janta Party (CJP) of India has decided to support the opposition coalition's protests on November 1, during which they will demand the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar. This decision follows widespread criticism of controversial reforms in the electoral rolls, which critics say undermine the people's right to choose their leaders.

Impact of Tropical Storm ARNAB

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm ARNAB caused severe damage to the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on Wednesday. Officials reported that the storm resulted in the destruction of homes, agricultural land, and electrical infrastructure, with at least three people losing their lives.

Criticism of Electoral Reforms

The Janta Party has stated that the reforms implemented in the electoral rolls have led to the removal of over 130 million names from the voter list. Although this removal includes individuals who have died or relocated, critics believe that these reforms likely target a significant number of eligible voters as well.

This party, along with several student organizations and opposition parties led by Rahul Gandhi, has been protesting these reforms and the alleged irregularities of the Chief Election Commissioner of India for over a month. In a statement released by Abhijit Deepke, the founder of CJP, it was stated: "Gyanesh Kumar has lost the necessary trust to oversee free and fair elections. His resignation is essential to restore the credibility and independence of the Election Commission."

The Janta Party has also emphasized that the constitution equips every adult citizen with the right to vote, and it is their duty to ensure that no eligible citizen is deprived of their right. Deepke wrote in his post on the social media platform X: "The Janta Party supports the INDIA coalition protests on November 1. The nation is above everything!"

However, CJP faces restrictions. Leaders of this party were detained during protests earlier this month and were forced to sign an agreement that prohibits them from calling for large gatherings in central Delhi. Supporting calls for others to protest could be the loophole they need.
