Tarek Mansour and Luana Lopes Lara met in a class at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Luana always sat in the front rows, and Tarek wanted to learn from her. Spending time in the university's international community, where Luana grew up in Brazil and Tarek in Lebanon, they decided to collaborate to establish a company that would introduce prediction markets, long discussed in academic circles, to the general public.
Kalshi's success in the prediction market
The result of this collaboration is Kalshi, which today is considered one of the most popular prediction markets in the world. This platform allows users to bet on issues such as the Republican nominee for the upcoming presidential election and the price of diesel. Kalshi has been very accurate in predicting the outcomes of events like elections, enabling users to participate in a domain that was previously only accessible to Wall Street traders.

Kalshi's legal challenges
Kalshi has faced challenges in the courts, particularly from states like New York and Washington, which accuse the company of operating an illegal gambling operation. However, Kalshi emphasizes that its activities are legal, and investors particularly support the company. Currently, Kalshi is striving to attract more investment, with its valuation reaching $40 billion, nearly double the investors' estimate in May.
