King Charles will welcome Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, today (Wednesday) at the British government headquarters on Downing Street. This meeting occurs as Ukraine faces new tensions from the Donald Trump administration. This session is another of the meetings where King Charles continues to support Zelensky during this critical time.

Details of Zelensky's Meeting with British Officials

Zelensky announced in a post on social media X that he will meet with King Charles and Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, during this visit. Upon Zelensky's arrival at Downing Street, he will be welcomed by a ceremonial guard from the 12th Irish Guards, which a spokesperson for Number 10 stated is unprecedented.

This meeting takes place as new criticisms of Zelensky's leadership have been raised by Trump, who recently made an agreement with Moscow to ease sanctions on Russian diesel fuel exports. This trip marks Zelensky's first visit to a European capital since the announcement of this agreement, and he will also meet with Burnham for the second time.

Prime Minister's Position on Ukraine

Andy Burnham has so far refrained from condemning the U.S. President for this agreement with Russia and stated in a meeting with parliament representatives on Wednesday that he wants to "repair the bridges to restore support." In a statement released last night before this meeting, Burnham emphasized: "Our strong support for Ukraine is vital for our security in Britain and ensures that those on the front lines have the necessary equipment to confront Russia."

He continued: "My message to the people of Ukraine is very clear, we will stand by you for as long as it takes, and we will act faster and further in support of your brave fight for peace in Europe. This is not only the right thing to do but essential. Russia's aggression must not succeed on our continent."

The British Prime Minister's office has announced that Burnham has asked ministers to prepare proposals for further sanctions, military aid, and financial packages to support Ukraine in the coming weeks. The UK will also send £45 million worth of surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine and will impose a ban on the export of liquefied natural gas from Russia.

Additionally, the UK plans to accelerate the delivery of over 5,000 lightweight multi-role missiles to Ukraine over the next four years with a funding of £1.6 billion.
