Lini Crowell, founder and CEO of Saie, has demonstrated how to build a business with social impact and purpose by achieving great successes in the beauty industry. Saie, which is considered one of the growing brands in this industry, has filled the gap between high-performance cosmetic formulas, non-toxic natural ingredients, and sustainable business practices.
Saie's Success and Social Impact
Saie initially started as a health blog hosting conversations about clean beauty alternatives, but quickly became a viral business. On Thursday night in New York, Crowell received the Time's 2026 Earth Award for her achievements as a female entrepreneur. This award is given to individuals who work in the field of environmental protection and climate change.

Previous Time Earth Award recipients include individuals such as Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, a marine biologist, and Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York. Saie has implemented many climate commitments in its business, including reducing plastic and responsibly sourced packaging, beyond achieving popularity and sales of over $100 million.
Key Actions and Future Vision
In her acceptance speech for this honor, Crowell emphasized the importance of action. She said, "I am an entrepreneur. And entrepreneurs have a special kind of superpower: we can take a small idea and believe in it until it becomes bigger than we ever imagined." She added, "We built Saie on this belief, and this brand has become a global force. But my instinct for action did not start and will not end in beauty."
Crowell recalls how, as a child, she would collect trash while hiking with her family. Now she applies these small lessons related to environmental preservation to make a difference in an industry that is estimated to produce 120 billion units of plastic waste annually.
Since founding Saie in 2019, Crowell has committed her company to donate one percent of sales to environmental causes and has partnered with rePurpose Global to collect double the plastic it produces. Over five years, Saie has successfully recovered 200,000 pounds of waste.
Crowell concluded by saying, "When it comes to climate, we often talk about the magnitude of the problem, and we should do that. But we also need to talk about the power of starting. This is how individual action becomes a collective movement. My goal is for Saie to help recover 100 million pounds of plastic waste from nature, and I hope one day that number will seem small too."
