Marine Le Pen, the far-right leader of France and a leading candidate in the 2027 presidential election, welcomed Donald Trump's decision, the President of the United States, to invite Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, to the G20 summit in Miami in December.

Criticism of Macron and Support for Ending the War

Le Pen, speaking at the live Playbook event in Paris, referred to the war between Russia and Ukraine, stating, "Any initiative that helps end this massacre is welcome." She also criticized Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, saying that his efforts to bring Russia back to the negotiating table are insufficient.

She further emphasized that if she wins the 2027 presidential election, France will cut all financial aid to Ukraine, although she is prepared to maintain some forms of support, including military training.

Risks and Consequences

Le Pen referred to recent Russian attacks on Ukraine's military infrastructure, stating, "The Russians are currently targeting transportation means for military equipment to Ukraine." She mentioned the unsuccessful drone attacks on Leipzig airport in Germany, adding that this situation could escalate tensions. She noted, "It is more important than ever that we end this conflict."

The White House's invitation to Putin for the G20 summit reflects recent U.S. efforts to reintegrate Moscow into the global diplomatic fold and may lead to Putin's first in-person visit to the G20 since 2019. However, this invitation comes at a time when Russian armed forces are currently targeting Kyiv with drone and missile attacks, causing further tensions in the international community.

Kaja Kallas, the European Union's foreign affairs chief and a staunch supporter of Ukraine, responded to this invitation by saying that hearing this news is "very difficult."
