Mitch McConnell announced on Monday that he participated in the Senate vote, thus ending his months-long absence from the institution. He had been hospitalized after a fall in June.
Difficult Recovery Experience
The 84-year-old Republican senator from Kentucky said in a post on X: "Today I cast my first vote since the bad fall I had in June. I am really looking forward to returning to the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues." He went on to mention the difficulties of his recovery, stating: "My recovery has been a long and sometimes frustrating process."

Medical Care and Future Plans
McConnell also noted that the "residual effects" of his childhood polio have impacted his recovery process. He added: "I haven't reached 100 percent yet, but I assured John Thune, the Senate Majority Leader, that I am continuing physical therapy as my doctors recommended, and I will try to be present for tough votes."
McConnell's office initially released little information about his hospitalization on June 14. After weeks of uncertainty and his absence from the Senate, rumors and speculation about his health status increased online. In July, Andy Beshear, the Democratic governor of Kentucky, released a letter urging McConnell to provide "complete information about his current health status" to Kentuckians.
A few days later, McConnell revealed that he was hospitalized due to a temporary loss of consciousness after his fall and then struggled with a "mild case of pneumonia." He dismissed rumors of more severe conditions, stating that his doctors confirmed he had not broken any bones and did not suffer a concussion.
At the end of July, McConnell's office released a new report stating that he was continuing his physical therapy as directed by his doctors and had been discharged from the hospital, but at that time he still did not have medical clearance to leave the rehabilitation center and return to the Senate floor. On August 6, his office announced that he had been discharged from the rehabilitation center that day and would continue his recovery at home.
McConnell plans to resign from his position in January when his term ends. This is not the first time he has faced health issues, as he has had several falls in recent years.
