Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, responded on Thursday to JD Vance, an American senator, regarding a lengthy post on social media in which Vance mentioned the Republican defeat in the midterm elections and emphasized that the U.S.-Israel war against Iran was the cause of this defeat.
Qalibaf's Jabs at Vance
In response to Vance, Qalibaf wrote: "The energy of a losing gambler cannot leave the gambling table. Your president is preparing for the next stage of war while America is on the brink of an Israel-centric cliff. Instead of cliché remarks, why don’t you tell this to your president?" These statements reflect the existing tensions between Iran and the United States and the political reactions of both sides to each other.

Vance's Analysis and Its Consequences
In his message, published less than 24 hours after the Republican defeat, Vance pointed out four points that he believed were essential for bringing voters back to the party: "1) End the war. 2) Focus on the cost of living and inflation. 3) Prioritize American interests. 4) Change our relations with Israel." These statements came as Vance attempts to distance himself from a war that former President Donald Trump strongly defended.
The war that began on February 28 of this year between the United States and Israel against Iran resulted in the loss of many senior Iranian officials. However, the Tehran regime retaliated against these attacks by targeting American interests in the Middle East, closing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for oil and gas supplies, and warning ships not to pass through this waterway.
These tensions led to an increase in fuel and fertilizer prices, which in turn raised the cost of living in the United States and contributed to creating a challenging electoral environment for Republicans, who experienced a generational defeat on Tuesday night. While Vance stated that "the reason for our loss is the war," Trump emphasizes the importance of this conflict in preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
