The National Commission for Election Accounts and Political Financing (CNCCFP) has begun monitoring election accounts ahead of the 2027 presidential elections. A fresh atmosphere has emerged in the commission's offices located at 35 Federation Street in Paris. This commission assists election teams to ensure compliance with election spending laws, especially regarding the use of social media.
Changes in Financial Oversight
Christian Sharpy, the head of CNCCFP, announced that representatives of all candidates will gather as soon as the list of candidates is finalized. Given that election expenses have been under review since last spring, campaigns must ensure that all their expenses comply with the laws to prevent their accounts from being rejected.

Many questions have arisen regarding the use of social media and its registration in accounts. If an influencer financially supports a candidate, this expense must be recorded in the accounts. Additionally, as of October 1, political advertising will be prohibited.
Care for Financial Resources
Candidates have also been invited to exercise extreme caution regarding their financial resources. All financial contributions must come from individuals residing in France or holding French citizenship, and bank loans can only be sourced from banks located in the European Economic Area. Sharpy will particularly oversee the origins of private loans to prevent the possibility of pseudonyms.
In case of any doubts, CNCCFP can refer to financial intelligence services to investigate suspicious financial sources. This issue becomes even more significant as some parties face difficulties in securing loans.
Furthermore, to facilitate the monitoring process, CNCCFP will soon launch a platform that allows candidates to submit documents and invoices online. This change will help compare expenses and prevent violations.
The last time CNCCFP took serious action was in 2012 when Nicolas Sarkozy's election accounts were completely rejected. This issue serves as a reminder of the necessity for all teams to strictly adhere to the laws.
To prevent any interference or influence in the elections, CNCCFP will rent additional space in its office so that all auditors can personally review candidates' expenses.
