Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, announced at the international conference "The Future of the Environment and the Dynamics of Climate Change" held in New Delhi that developing countries are unjustly held responsible for carbon emissions. He pointed out that the per capita carbon emissions in India are less than half of the global average.

The Role of Developed Countries

Modi stated at this two-day conference: "The responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions is often wrongly placed on developing countries. In contrast, in developed countries, the per capita carbon emissions are six times higher than in India." He has raised this issue in global forums, including the Paris Climate Change Conference in 2015.

Impacts of Climate Change

These statements come in the wake of devastating floods in Nepal, India's northern neighbor, which claimed over 1,400 lives. Nepal produces only about 0.1 percent of global greenhouse gases and is recognized as a "negligible contributor to climate change." Modi also noted that India is the only G20 country that has met its commitments from the Paris Conference ahead of schedule.

The conference has brought together judges and environmental officials from 17 countries, aiming to explore the challenges and opportunities related to climate change and environmental protection. Supreme Court judges and representatives from state environmental agencies are also present at this event.
