NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) will hold an emergency meeting to discuss recent drone attacks on commercial ships following increased tensions in the Black Sea. Nicolae Ciucă, the President of Romania, announced this news on the sidelines of the European Council meeting in Brussels.

Details of Recent Attacks

According to Ciucă, two chemical tankers have been targeted by drone attacks in or near Romania's territorial waters in the past 24 hours. He also emphasized that it is still too early to definitively say whether Russia has played a role in these attacks.

NATO's Position and Support for Ukraine

The President of Romania stated that during this meeting, Jens Stoltenberg, NATO's Secretary General, expressed NATO's full solidarity with Romania and other countries in the region. He added that this meeting will include a review of the overall situation in the Black Sea and emphasized that all hybrid attacks are aimed at undermining support for Ukraine. Ciucă reiterated that NATO will continue to support Ukraine.

These attacks and tensions in the Black Sea have raised concerns among NATO members, and many countries, including Romania and Bulgaria, are seeking to strengthen security cooperation in the region. While investigations to identify the perpetrators of these attacks are ongoing, NATO has responded swiftly and is looking for solutions to protect shipping lines in these waters.
