North Korea fired a projectile towards the sea on Saturday. This test was conducted as tensions between the country and South Korea have sharply increased. Landmine explosions last month injured three South Korean soldiers, and both countries have heavily accused each other of using anti-personnel mines.

Reactions to the Projectile Launch

Meanwhile, Kim Yo-jong, the influential sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, rejected Seoul's request for an apology regarding the recent explosions in the demilitarized zone. This area, which is 4 kilometers wide, is heavily armed and lies between the two Koreas. Kim Yo-jong called these requests "completely ridiculous" and added that North Korea intends to sever its ties with South Korea.

Increase in North Korean Military Actions

The projectile launch on Saturday followed several weeks of military displays by North Korea, which included testing a hypersonic missile system, shooting drills, and the introduction of a new warship. Kim Jong-un has also continuously showcased his growing nuclear program while the United States has called for a revival of diplomacy.

Seoul has urged Pyongyang to refrain from bolstering its borders, including the use of mines and anti-tank obstacles. This comes as tensions remain high in the region, with both countries seeking to maintain their positions against each other.
