Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, announced at the annual Dreamforce conference in San Francisco that the artificial intelligence industry does not need new regulations. These comments came as he responded to criticisms and concerns regarding AI safety in an interview with Marc Benioff, founder of Salesforce.
Conflicting Views in the AI Industry
Huang said, "We do not need new laws and new regulations." His remarks echo similar sentiments previously expressed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. At the conference, Huang emphasized that if a company produces a product and is not confident about its performance or safety, it should not release it.

These statements were made as Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, called for a slowdown in AI development at the same conference. This sparked intense political discussions and criticisms on the subject. Huang responded to Amodei's criticisms, stating that concerns about job automation are "completely meaningless."
Huang's Close Ties with Trump and Other Republicans
The day before the Dreamforce conference, Huang had a phone call with Trump, and during that conversation, both concluded that recent warnings about the dangers of AI are exaggerated. Trump referred to these warnings as a "hoax." Huang also mentioned the views of other Republicans, such as David Sachs, Trump's AI advisor, and Mike Johnson, Speaker of the House, who all believe that safety issues should be the responsibility of the AI companies themselves.
While Huang strongly emphasizes the lack of need for new regulations, other leaders in the AI industry, like Amodei, are calling for the establishment of standards and regulations for greater safety. For example, OpenAI supported a bipartisan plan in the House for safety assessments on Tuesday, while Elon Musk called for top labs and Chinese companies to review each other's models in their evaluations.
Given the diverse and sometimes conflicting landscape in the AI industry, Huang's remarks at the Dreamforce conference reflect a serious attitude towards avoiding government intervention and relying more on the industry itself.
