Poland reaffirmed its support for Kyiv following a Russian drone attack on a gas station and passenger train near the border with Ukraine. This attack, which occurred on Sunday morning, heightened security concerns in Poland, prompting serious reactions from the country's officials.
Response from Polish Officials
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Poland, announced on a television program that Poland's borders have been targeted to deter countries supporting Ukraine from their assistance. He emphasized that supporting Ukraine is part of Poland's national interests and that the country must not fail in this war.

On Monday, the Polish government also held a meeting with Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister, and ministers of national security. Tusk wrote on social media after the meeting that further measures to strengthen border security were discussed.
New Attacks and Threats
Meanwhile, Poland's Foreign Minister, Radosław Sikorski, stated that the country will respond seriously and non-provocatively to the escalation of tensions from Russia. He also mentioned the necessity of doubling support for Ukraine as a security imperative for Poland.
This attack occurred while two special trains were nearby, carrying prominent figures such as the former Prime Minister of Sweden and the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Katarzyna Piszkurska, a Polish political scientist who was on that train, said that passengers were evacuated in time and the situation was brought under control.
Polish officials also expressed concern over changes in public opinion polls regarding support for Ukraine. In a poll conducted in July, 52 percent of participants supported continuing military aid to Kyiv, while this figure was 77.5 percent at the beginning of the war in 2022.
The Minister of Defense of Poland warned that anti-Ukrainian sentiments are currently rising among some people, and certain forces in Poland are spreading Russian propaganda. Meanwhile, Russian drone attacks on Poland have become a daily issue.
