Protesters in New Delhi demanded the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, the Chief Election Commissioner of India. The demonstration was organized by the Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM), which is associated with the Hindu nationalist movement Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The protesters expressed their concerns about Starlink, the satellite internet service established by Elon Musk, during the demonstration that began on Friday, October 23, in the Chanakyapuri area.
National Security Concerns
The SJM stated that Starlink poses threats to India's national security and digital sovereignty. They called for a halt to the commercial launch of this service, arguing that the network of this service could create problems during security emergencies, such as internet outages. This protest followed Elon Musk's criticisms of regulatory delays in India and his accusations against Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani.

Elon Musk's Criticisms
Musk referred to Ambani as the Prime Minister of India and the "real head of India" in a tweet, accusing him of monopolistic abuse of the market. The SJM stated: "Unfortunately, instead of responding to requests for information about national security, Elon Musk indirectly accused Indian businesses and the government." The organization also cited instances of Starlink in Ukraine as examples of national security threats.
Background of Tensions and Consequences
In recent months, tensions between India and China have continued along the northeastern borders. Shatrughan Singh Kapoor, the Chief of India's Border Police, announced that confrontations between Indian and Chinese forces are currently occurring at several points in Arunachal Pradesh. This is happening while diplomatic negotiations between the two countries are ongoing. These tensions have led to severe criticisms from Indian politicians, including Jairam Ramesh, a Member of Parliament and senior leader of the Congress Party.
Ramesh tweeted: "The nation is asking: In the face of border tensions, what is this kind of nationalism that softens towards China and the growing economic dependency?" These statements reflect deeper concerns about India's national security situation and its relations with China.
Recent Developments
In another development, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, spoke with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, on Thursday. They discussed bilateral relations and recent developments in the Middle East. Modi emphasized the need to restore peace and stability in the region during this meeting.
These developments come as India is working to facilitate the return of Muslim pilgrims who are in a difficult situation due to Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia. The Ministry of External Affairs of India has stated that it is coordinating with its embassy and consulates in Riyadh and Jeddah, along with airlines and tour operators, to arrange the return of these pilgrims.
