Widespread protests have begun in Delhi due to Jianash Kumar's role as the Chief Election Commissioner of India in a controversial review of the voter list. These protests specifically refer to the removal of over 130 million voters in 30 states and union territories, which has drawn severe criticism from opposition leaders and critics.

Reasons for Protests and Criticisms

Opposition leaders and critics claim that during this process, a portion of minority voters has been removed, and this action is seen as a tool to strengthen the future electoral victories of the BJP, led by Narendra Modi. Criticism of Jianash Kumar, as the Chief Election Commissioner, has increased due to his affiliations with the central government and the pressures he faces.

In September, reports emerged indicating that two of the three election commissioners had formally expressed concerns regarding various aspects of the Special Review (SIR). These concerns included new voter registrations, the removal and restoration of voters on the lists, and the overall security of the electoral list.

Large Presence of Protesters and Security Measures

Thousands of protesters, activists, opposition members, and student groups have gathered at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to demand Jianash Kumar's resignation. These gatherings are taking place as security officials have implemented strict measures and closed several metro stations to limit public access. Additionally, legal authorities have imposed restrictions on public gatherings and speeches without permits.

Today also marks the anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, known as the "Father of the Nation," who is recognized for his nonviolent protests and influence in India's freedom movement. As the temperature in Delhi gradually decreases, pressure on the Election Commission continues to rise.

The political pressure group "Citizens for Justice and Peace" (CJP) will not hold a demonstration in Delhi today but is set to organize a rally against Kumar in Mumbai and plans to soon expand these protests nationwide.
