Rae (Rachel Agatha Keen), a 28-year-old singer from London, is currently performing as a supporting artist on Bruno Mars' romantic tour. This experience has been both challenging and humbling for her on a large scale in front of crowds of 70,000. In a video call from New Orleans, she says, "I think people know the song 'Where Is My Husband!'" This successful song, which has been streamed over a billion times on Spotify, has put her in a position where she feels she must deliver her best performance.
Challenges of Her Career
Rae faced many challenges in the first seven years of her career and has been seeking an opportunity to express her creativity since signing a four-album deal with Polydor in 2014. During this time, she wrote songs for global stars like Beyoncé and John Legend, but she always dreamed of connecting with her audience. In 2021, she publicly expressed dissatisfaction with her situation and called for the release of her album. This action led to the end of her contract with Polydor and the beginning of a new era as an independent artist.

New Album and Hope for the Future
In her debut album titled "My 21st Century Blues," which has been streamed over 2 billion times on Spotify, Rae addresses her struggles such as substance abuse and heartbreak. The song "Escapism," which deals with themes of escape and addiction, went viral on TikTok and topped the UK charts. In her second album, titled "This Music May Contain Hope," she focuses on her rebuilding and hope for the future. This album has recently been nominated for a Mercury Prize.
In this album, Rae portrays various emotions centered around hope. Songs like "I Will Overcome" and "Happier Times Ahead" reflect her strength and determination. She says, "In these hard and wild times that the world is currently in, I wanted to create something that embodies hope. I knew I needed it, and the audience needed it too."
Alongside all these challenges, Rae has used humor and wit in her works to express her experiences. In the song "Beware.. The South London Lover Boy," she warns women about mysterious men lurking in the streets of her hometown. Rae has also released the song "Nightingale Lane" in memory of her former love, addressing the deep feelings and memories from that relationship.
