Diesel prices in the United States have reached $6.52 (5.73 euros) per gallon, which is a significant increase compared to last year. This situation not only affects transportation costs and various industries but could also exacerbate the cost of living crisis in Europe.

Consequences of Rising Diesel Prices

Diesel is one of the vital fuels for many industries, from freight transportation to agriculture and construction. The increase in diesel prices can raise the final costs of products, thereby putting more pressure on consumers. In fact, while gasoline is primarily used for personal consumption, diesel acts as a key fuel for the economy.

According to experts, rising diesel prices can increase transportation costs and the operation of heavy machinery, which in turn leads to higher living costs and inflation. In Europe, especially now that dependence on diesel for transportation has reached 77% of total diesel and gas consumption, this price increase could have serious economic repercussions.

Factors Affecting Diesel Prices

Russia is one of the largest diesel suppliers in the world, but due to recent attacks on its oil refineries, its diesel production has significantly decreased. Estimates suggest that diesel production in Russia has dropped by nearly 30% compared to 2025. For this reason, the United States, as the largest diesel exporter in the world, has been trying to compensate for the shortages.

However, these efforts have not been sufficient, and according to Greg Stanton, former President of the United States, his administration is considering a ban on diesel exports. This action may be aimed at reducing domestic prices, but experts warn that this decision could lead to reduced production at refineries and further price increases.

In Europe, rising diesel prices could have serious consequences. Estimates show that drivers in the European Union are spending an average of 30 euros more for a 50-liter tank of diesel. This increase in costs could lead to a greater financial burden on businesses and consumers.

As winter approaches, refineries may not be able to meet the demand for diesel and heating oil, which could lead to further shortages and price increases. This situation could exacerbate economic crises in Europe and other countries.
