Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, in an interview, highlighted that the benefits of artificial intelligence require the acceptance of some negative risks, pointing out the fundamental differences in the views of OpenAI and its competitor, Anthropic. In this interview with Brendan Bordelon, a technology reporter, he stated that artificial intelligence should be widely accessible to the public.

Differences in Perspective Between OpenAI and Anthropic

Altman stated that there is a "real gap" between the views of the two companies, asserting that OpenAI believes the world must accept some negative issues in exchange for the benefits of this technology. In response to questions about the direct differences between OpenAI and the company Anthropic, led by Dario Amodei, he said: "We believe that we must accept some negative issues in exchange for the benefits of this technology."

Anthropic is recognized as one of the main advocates for AI regulation in the industry, a position that has so far contrasted with OpenAI's softer approach. However, in recent months, political differences between the two AI giants have diminished, and OpenAI has also supported stricter regulations.

Altman's Support for New Regulations

Sam Altman supported Dario Amodei's call to slow down the development of advanced AI models. OpenAI has recently joined Anthropic in supporting new regulations in various states in the U.S. that require stricter security requirements. This shift in position indicates a slight turn in OpenAI's previous strategy.

Altman also emphasized the need to establish legal responsibility for OpenAI in the event of issues arising from its models. He stated, "I cannot agree to say: we guarantee that no serious hacks, misuse, or any other negative occurrences will happen."

He pointed out that in his view, people will use technology for the benefit of humanity rather than misuse it. Altman also mentioned that he does not believe in serious risks posed by artificial intelligence and is particularly not worried about losing control over AI.

In response to Altman's comments, a spokesperson for Anthropic stated that the company's proposals only pertain to advanced models and instead emphasized the need to regulate the industry. They also referenced a discussion between Amodei and an investor in which Amodei had addressed criticisms regarding regulations.

The interview with Altman, published on Monday, addressed various topics including Donald Trump's recent agreement with tech giants, recent incidents of automated hacks by OpenAI's models, and the impact of AI money on American politics.
