Saudi Arabia, after the visit of Khalid bin Salman, its Defense Minister, to Tehran along with the Chief of Army of Pakistan and the Head of Intelligence of Turkey, has requested the United States to give diplomacy a chance. This request is part of an effort to mediate between Washington and Tehran to reach an agreement that prevents a new round of war.

Riyadh's Concerns About a New War

According to a Hebrew network, Riyadh is concerned about the possibility of renewed war between the U.S. and Iran and the targeting of Saudi oil and energy facilities. Meanwhile, senior U.S. officials, especially during Donald Trump's presidency, have urged Riyadh to create diplomatic grounds.

Qatari Mediation

An informed source on the negotiations told Reuters that Qatari mediators have returned to Tehran to act within the framework of efforts to reach an agreement between the United States and Iran. This comes as Iran has consistently emphasized the need for Washington to adhere to the seven conditions set forth by Tehran.

In this context, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing U.S. officials and knowledgeable sources, that J.D. Vance, the U.S. Vice President, has reached out to Mohsen Rezaei, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and sent a letter aimed at reopening diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington.

Factors Influencing U.S. Decisions

The Trump administration has been hesitant as Iran has taken firm positions regarding responses to any further aggression, and some regional countries have opposed escalating tensions. Additionally, factors such as upcoming elections, rising energy prices, and the halt of goods and oil transit have also influenced these decisions.

Ultimately, these developments reflect the diplomatic complexities in the region and the efforts to prevent escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. Saudi Arabia, as a key player in these equations, is seeking to create a conducive environment for the diplomatic resolution of this crisis.
