A severe storm on Saturday impacted the Northeastern United States, resulting in hundreds of flight cancellations and power outages for thousands. The states of New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania were severely affected by this storm.

Officials' Warnings About Flood Risks

The storm, known as a "Noreaster" due to the northeastern winds, is typically accompanied by heavy rain or snow and strong winds. Since this storm coincides with high tide, officials have warned of the risk of flooding and road closures in low-lying and coastal areas.

The National Weather Service has predicted that this storm could cause major flooding along the Mid-Atlantic coast during several high tide periods over the weekend. Officials have urged residents to prepare quickly for significant flooding in low-lying areas near the coast.

Impacts on Transportation and Cultural Events

According to reports, about 95,000 people in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania experienced power outages. Kathy Hochul, the Governor of New York, emphasized that this storm particularly impacted coastal areas of New York City and Long Island.

New York City Mayor, Zohra Mammadani, also warned residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Due to the storm, hundreds of flights have been canceled, with 253 flights canceled at Boston Logan Airport alone. Airlines including JetBlue, United, and American have issued travel advisories and allowed passengers to change flights without fees.

Additionally, several major cultural events have also been canceled due to the storm. The "Global Citizen" and "All Things Go" festivals in New York and the "Oceans Calling" festival in Maryland have been canceled. The organizers of the Global Citizen festival in Central Park announced that this is the first time in 14 years that they have been forced to cancel this event.

In some areas of Massachusetts, including Boston, rainfall is expected to reach up to five inches (13 centimeters), equivalent to more than a month of rainfall.
