The Starlink and Starshield services have been reestablished in Ukraine. This action enables the Ukrainian military forces to use drones at high speeds. Oleksii Reznikov, the Ukrainian Defense Minister, announced on Saturday in a message to reporters that the monitoring systems of the Ministry of Defense indicate that the communication speeds of Starlink and Starshield have returned to normal.
Recorded Speeds and Their Impacts
Reznikov stated, "We have recorded speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour, and the connection is stable." These developments follow reports from last week regarding speed limitations in Starshield services, which is considered the military version of Starlink. These limitations had impacted Ukraine's ability to use drones and conduct defensive operations.
The speed limitations came amid increasing tensions between Washington and Kyiv, where former U.S. President Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of continuing the war with Russia. On Friday, Ukrainian officials told reporters that drones were still losing their signal at speeds above 160 kilometers per hour, despite Trump announcing on Thursday that Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, had resolved the issue.
The Importance of This Connection for Military Forces
Reznikov also emphasized: "This outcome is crucial for the front lines, our military personnel, drone operations, logistics, and communications." He noted that the Ministry of Defense will continue to monitor and track the performance of Starlink and Starshield. The establishment of these communication services allows the Ukrainian military forces to operate more effectively on the battlefield and contributes to enhancing the efficiency of military operations.
Previously, communication limitations could have led to a reduction in Ukraine's ability to use advanced military technologies, placing the country in a difficult position. Now, with the restoration of Starlink and Starshield services, hopes for strengthening Ukraine's military and defensive capabilities have increased.
