The state elections in Germany concluded on Sunday with electoral rallies held by various parties. In the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, far-right parties, including Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Greens, all held large rallies. Additionally, in Berlin, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and the leftist coalition of Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) also had special programs.
Electoral Rallies and Polls
While various parties were busy holding their final rallies, polls indicate that a significant percentage of voters in both states are still undecided. According to the "Politbarometer Extra" poll conducted by a public media outlet, 21 percent of voters in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and 23 percent in Berlin have not yet made a decision.

In the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a tight competition is expected between AfD and the Social Democratic Party (SPD). The Greens are also on the verge of entering the state parliament, with polls suggesting that this party will likely secure around 5 percent of the votes. This state is currently governed by a coalition of SPD and the Left Party, led by Manuela Schwesig from SPD.
Consequences of the Elections on Federal Policy
In Berlin, polling results indicate that CDU and the Left Party are in a close competition, and the BSW coalition may struggle to surpass the 5 percent threshold. The Berlin government is currently run by a coalition of CDU and SPD under the leadership of Kai Wegner.
The results of these elections could have significant implications for Germany's federal policies. The political future of Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany, is also in question following CDU's defeat in the Saxony-Anhalt state elections two weeks ago. Polls in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern show that CDU is currently in a weak position with 6 percent of the votes.
Simultaneously with these elections, the famous Oktoberfest festival is set to begin in Munich on Saturday. The new mayor of Munich, Dominik Krause from the Greens, will add more prestige to this event by inaugurating the 191st edition of the festival at Theresienwiese.
On the day of the elections, two large "pro-life" demonstrations will also take place in Berlin and Cologne, with counter-demonstrations expected in those areas as well. These events and the elections have all garnered significant attention and will impact the political landscape of Germany in the future.
