Major television networks have resumed coverage of President Donald Trump's pool this week after a halt due to a media ban imposed by the White House. However, uncertainty about CNN's access continues, and two sources familiar with the situation have stated that coverage decisions will be made daily.

Agreement on Pool Coverage

The five networks currently forming the White House pool—CNN, ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC—last week refrained from covering the President's pool in solidarity against the White House's decision to ban CNN, along with POLITICO and MS NOW.

After the Trump administration granted CNN, POLITICO, and MS NOW reporters access to the White House grounds again, the networks decided to resume their normal operations. CBS resumed its pool coverage duties, and CNN was allowed to cover a pool event at the National Archives.

Daily Decisions on News Coverage

However, later on Friday, the White House contacted the pool and requested a replacement for CNN for its pool coverage duties on Saturday. The White House stated that decisions regarding the status would be made daily and ultimately prevented CNN from traveling with the President on Air Force One on Saturday.

The pool did not decide to replace CNN with another network for its pool coverage duties on Saturday. The networks individually decided whether to cover that day's public events or not. The situation remains unstable, and if the White House does not grant CNN access, the pool will decide to replace CNN in the coming days.

The White House serves as a press entity composed of reporters from various news organizations who accompany the President at events. This system helps news organizations collaborate and share resources. It is usually rare for a President to travel or hold events without the presence of a press pool.

The key role of the press under the Constitution is to oversee government powers, and this role may lead to criticism. Trump previously stated that no specific story led to the ban on CNN, POLITICO, and MS NOW, but instead referred to a gathering of negative stories.
