The film Fjord, directed by Cristian Mungiu, tells the story of Mihai Gheorghiu and his Norwegian wife, Lisbeth, who have recently moved from Romania to Norway with their five children. The family has decided to make this move due to their proximity to Lisbeth's parents, and while they continue their lives in a loving and religious home, they suddenly face a major crisis.
Sudden separation of the children
One day at the children’s new school, a teacher notices a bruise on the shoulder of Elia, the eldest daughter of the family, and quickly takes action. Before Mihai and Lisbeth can understand the situation, their children - including a nursing infant - are taken to foster homes. This sudden separation and the parents' efforts to get their children back shape the story of the film.

Challenges of the support system
The film Fjord examines whether the authorities responsible for protecting children always make the best decisions. While the story may seem unrealistic, it is worth noting that the screenplay is based on a true event in Norway. This theme, while socially significant, is depicted through the core of the story and the strong performances of actors like Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve.
Stan, playing the father of the family, Mihai, shows how much he loves his children, but he also has anger and complexities. Renate Reinsve, as the mother, beautifully reveals the pain and suffering caused by the separation from her children, and these emotions are clearly evident in her performance.
Alongside the main story, the deep friendship between Elia and a neighbor's daughter named Nura enriches the emotional and human dimensions of the film. These two teenagers are in search of friendship and feelings that may encompass the roots of young love. Ultimately, Fjord reminds us that children can sometimes teach us life lessons that we do not expect or do not want to hear.
