Jose Alvarado (خوزه آلورادو) helped the New York Knicks achieve victory in the NBA Finals Game 4 in June with an outstanding performance, overcoming a 20-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win the championship. This player, known as one of the shortest in the league, played a key role in closing the scoring gap against the San Antonio Spurs with two three-pointers and a layup in the final minutes.
Championship with Hometown Team
Three nights later, Alvarado made an impossible dream come true by winning the NBA championship with his hometown team, the New York Knicks. This championship, after 53 years of drought for the team, brought pride not only to him but also to the people of Puerto Rico. Alvarado, who grew up in the neighborhoods of Brooklyn and Queens, is a true representative of the will and resilience of his city's people.

Challenges and Successes
Throughout his professional journey, Alvarado was often overlooked. He was mentored by Josh Pastner, a former Georgia Tech coach, during his high school years at Christ the King in Queens. Pastner recalls that many people told him Alvarado was not big or fast enough. However, Alvarado was named the conference's best defensive player in 2021, and his team won the ACC tournament championship.
Alvarado joined the New York Knicks on a three-year contract worth over $14 million and was recognized as an NBA champion. He says, "I took the toughness and resilience from Brooklyn and learned my skills from competing against strong opponents in Queens."
Alvarado will also participate with the Puerto Rican national team in the 2024 Diamond Games and was named Athlete of the Year at the National Puerto Rico Day ceremony in New York. He plans to represent Puerto Rico in the 2028 Diamond Games in Los Angeles.
As the new NBA season begins, Alvarado does not intend to take it easy and says, "What could be better than becoming champions again?"
