The digitalization of purchases and daily tasks has had significant effects on our social interactions. With the use of apps and online services, many daily tasks such as grocery shopping, bill payments, and even banking can easily be done from home. While these changes provide convenience, they also come with interesting consequences.

Reduction of Social Interactions

Daily tasks used to provide opportunities to leave the house and interact with others. Now, by doing tasks from home, individuals can easily spend days in isolation. This isolation has led to a decrease in social interactions and eliminates opportunities to connect with others. For example, buying coffee or fast food was not just a daily activity but also an opportunity to meet friends and neighbors.

Psychological and Social Effects

Dr. Gillian Sandstrom, a psychology professor, points out the importance of these small interactions in improving mood. She believes that individuals who have more interactions with others generally feel happier and more satisfied. However, online interactions cannot fully replace face-to-face contact. Virtual communications, while useful, cannot completely meet our social needs due to the lack of real emotions and body language.

Changes in how we interact with others and our shopping methods can gradually alter our perception of people. Instead of viewing others as individuals with feelings and needs, they are seen as "service providers" who exist solely to serve us.

Ultimately, the digitalization of our daily lives pushes us towards convenience, but this convenience can come at the cost of reducing the quality of our social interactions. It seems that to maintain mental health and social connections, we need to establish a proper balance between digital life and face-to-face interactions.
