The Jundeh Party (CJP) in India has announced that it will hold a nationwide protest in New Delhi if Gyanesh Kumar, the Chairman of the Election Commission, does not resign. This protest is scheduled to take place on October 10 at the "Jantar Mantar" location.
Recent Protests and Reasons for the Call
This call comes after a large protest at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, where thousands of demonstrators participated despite not receiving police permission. A similar protest was also held in New Delhi on October 2, which led to the arrest of several politicians and student leaders. This day also coincided with "Gandhi Jayanti," which is celebrated in memory of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, the global leader of non-violence.

Abhishek Deepak, the founder and spokesperson of CJP, stated in a statement: "If Gyanesh Kumar does not resign from his position, Jundeh members from across India will come to Delhi and protest at Jantar Mantar. If the Delhi police try to stop us, wherever they stop us will become our Jantar Mantar. This protest will be held peacefully, and we will follow the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi."
Background and Consequences of Protests
This call comes as on October 2, Delhi police arrested over 700 protesters around Jantar Mantar. These protesters included Atishi, a former Delhi minister. The police have implemented regulations known as "Section 163" to prevent gatherings of more than five people.
The recent CJP gathering at Shivaji Park in Mumbai also saw significant attendance from artistic and musical figures, but this gathering did not face similar violent suppression from authorities. These protests are considered part of a broader movement that began in May, initially as online jokes and gradually transformed into street protests.
This movement had previously led to the resignation of India's Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, in late July, and it seems that with the continuation of these activities, pressure on officials, especially regarding elections and their management, will increase.
