This conclusion from a new survey reflects the depth of public concern about this developing technology. These worries have intensified in recent weeks following calls from Dr. Dario Amodei of Anthropic and Sam Altman of OpenAI, along with Elon Musk, to slow down the development of artificial intelligence.
Public Concerns About Artificial Intelligence
The majority of Americans, regardless of party affiliation, gender, or age group, believe that advanced artificial intelligence could pose a serious threat to humanity. The survey shows that 70 percent of those who voted for Kamala Harris for president feel this risk, while the figure for Donald Trump supporters is 60 percent.

These concerns have recently come to the forefront, and it seems that people have taken the warnings from industry experts more seriously. Nearly half of American adults believe that industry experts are speaking seriously about the dangers of artificial intelligence, while only 26 percent believe these warnings are marketing tricks.
Political Tensions and Reactions
The survey results have turned into a political issue at the White House. President Donald Trump has consistently shown disregard for the dangers of artificial intelligence, calling it a "big risk." In his recent posts on the social media platform Truth Social, he referred to warnings about artificial intelligence as a "trick." Meanwhile, Democrats are seeking to establish a special committee to investigate artificial intelligence issues, and some senators, like Chris Murphy, are warning about its dangers.
Murphy has stated that concerns about artificial intelligence are a "dominant issue" for voters and emphasized that unlimited development must be prevented. He said, "We must prevent artificial intelligence from harming culture and jobs."
At the same time, Republicans are also trying to manage reactions to this technology. Some governors, like Spencer Cox of Utah and Ron DeSantis of Florida, have called for regulations at the state level. Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina has also emphasized the need to establish operational principles for the industry.
The survey indicates that many Americans are inclined to reduce or halt the development of artificial intelligence to mitigate its risks. Furthermore, even if the development of artificial intelligence means falling behind other countries, they still emphasize the need for more responsible development of this technology.
