Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of Britain, has faced significant changes in public opinion regarding British policies. According to a new poll, 53 percent of voters believe that the Labour Party under Burnham has a real chance of winning the upcoming election. This figure shows a remarkable increase compared to 33 percent in May, when former Prime Minister Keir Starmer was in the final stages of his unsuccessful term.
Burnham's Impact on the Labour Party's Credibility
This poll, released at the Labour Party's annual conference in Liverpool, reports significant changes in the Labour Party's credibility as an electoral force. It seems that the party representatives' decision to remove Starmer after disappointing results in local and regional elections in May has yielded positive results. Currently, most polls indicate that the Labour Party is increasingly leading, and it appears that voters have also felt the positive impact of Burnham's entry into the political arena.
Challenges Ahead for Burnham
However, Burnham also faces serious challenges. 59 percent of voters have declared the cost of living crisis as their top priority, and most believe that the government has failed to address this issue. In fact, 38 percent of respondents stated that their financial situation has worsened since the Labour Party came to power. Only 20 percent of voters believe that Burnham's government will be able to improve people's daily lives.
The poll also revealed that 44 percent of participants expect their financial situation to worsen following the budget statement from John Healey, the Chancellor. While 34 percent of people expect an improvement in their financial situation, 31 percent also predict worsening conditions.
Burnham must also be aware that public support for him, although higher than other party leaders, is declining. His positive rating in polls has dropped to +16, down from +19 at the start of his premiership in July. Experts say Burnham needs to convert this trust into tangible achievements for the people to maintain support.
