Artificial intelligence can flatten the organizational structure of companies, improve global agriculture, and offer you an ideal vacation. However, it may also lead to permanent job losses, regional economic destruction, and social unrest.
Challenges Posed by Artificial Intelligence
These serious issues shaped the atmosphere of the third TIME100 dinner panel in San Francisco. Participants included executives, innovators, and social activists who discussed these challenges. One key issue was whether artificial intelligence would result in massive job losses or create new job opportunities.

Greg Stanton, CEO of Booking Holdings, said at the meeting, "At the beginning of the century, our company had thousands of human translators. Today, I don’t know what they are doing, but I feel bad. Their jobs are no longer needed." He also referred to his company's vision for creating AI travel agents.
The Need for Government Action
Ravi Kumar, CEO of Cognizant, emphasized during the discussion that artificial intelligence must be properly guided. He predicted that this technology could empower everyday employees. However, he expressed concern that many companies are currently far from this approach and called for new taxes on companies that use AI instead of human labor.
Stanton also warned of social unrest if governments do not take action to mitigate the negative impacts of artificial intelligence on those who cannot transition to new jobs. He said, "I am worried that this change is happening rapidly. In the past, these changes were much slower."
Nevertheless, the panels also pointed out that the positive potentials of artificial intelligence should not be overlooked. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union, highlighted the investments of Canada and Rwanda in enhancing youth skills and called for international efforts to connect those who still lack internet access.
