Challenges from Climate Change
The Republic of the Marshall Islands consists of narrow strips of land across 29 coral atolls scattered over more than 750,000 square miles of the central Pacific Ocean. For many residents of this country, adapting to rising sea levels means relocating communities to higher areas; however, there is no higher ground to move to in the Marshall Islands. This fundamental difference impacts the meaning of climate adaptation and how we act.
