The Sosk Janata Party (CJP) has been prohibited from holding planned protests in New Delhi on Saturday. Delhi police announced on Friday that they rejected CJP's request submitted on October 7 to hold this protest due to "very short notice."
Reasons for Denial of Permit
An official added that violations of regulations in previous protests by this party also influenced the decision to deny the permit. He also noted that Section 163 of the Indian Criminal Procedure Code has been enacted in the New Delhi area, prohibiting any gatherings or protests.
In this context, over 20,000 police and military personnel have been deployed in the city to prevent protests. Reports indicate that Indian Railways has canceled several mail and express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations on October 10. The reason for this action is cited as "anticipated heavy road traffic" around these two major stations.
Arrest of Sosk Janata Party Members
While the Sosk Janata Party (CJP) is seeking to hold a nationwide rally in New Delhi on October 10 to demand the resignation of the country's Election Commission head, leaders of this youth movement have reported widespread arrests of their members by Indian authorities. Deepak Balyan, a spokesperson for CJP, and other activists from the party were among those arrested last night.
Balyan was released after his arrest in Rajasthan. It has also been reported that at least 10,000 people have been detained across the country on Wednesday. CJP founder Abhijit Deepke has called on officials to end these arrests, likening the situation to a "state of emergency."
As the party increases pressure to hold this protest, Deepke has announced that he will soon arrive in Delhi and march towards Jantar Mantar. He emphasized that "these threats will not be effective, and the youth of this country are no longer afraid of you."
Thousands are expected to gather at the protest site Jantar Mantar on Saturday to voice their demands.
