The administration of Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced on Friday that Katty Zakaria has been appointed as the new White House spokesperson. Zakaria replaces Caroline Leout, who has decided to resign.

Background of Katty Zakaria

Katty Zakaria, 42, is from California and previously worked as a senior communications advisor at the social media platform Truth Social. She has also served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the past.

Trump stated in a post on the social media platform Truth Social that Zakaria's appointment to this position is a "great honor" and described her as a "loyal and smart supporter" and a member of the "Make America Great Again" movement. Zakaria thanked Trump in a post on social media platform X, saying that "his leadership is a blessing for this country."

Challenges and Expectations

Zakaria further stated that "the task ahead is to deliver strong results for the country and to inform the American people about the great achievements of the administration that are being accomplished every day." She also expressed hope to collaborate with the White House press team and journalists across the country to communicate this record to the public.

Zakaria also referenced Caroline Leout, stating that she has been "incredible" and has set a high standard for this position. Leout announced in August that she intended to resign from this position due to the need for more time for her family and young children.

Last week, Fox News reported that Leout will begin working as an analyst at the network starting November 1. During her tenure as White House spokesperson, Leout had confrontations with reporters, and in one instance, referred to a White House reporter as "a leftist" for a question about the deadly shooting by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Minnesota.

The Trump administration had four different spokespersons during its first term from 2017 to 2021: Sean Spicer, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Stephanie Grisham, and Kayleigh McEnany. Zakaria's appointment comes as Trump faces low approval ratings due to high energy prices and the war in Iran, with the midterm elections approaching on November 3, where Democrats are expected to achieve significant victories.
