Xi Jinping, the President of China, and Donald Trump, the President of the United States, held discussions at the White House focused on key issues in the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Discussions on Various Topics

During this meeting, which took place in the Oval Office of the White House, Xi Jinping told Trump that he hopes the United States will continue to oppose "Taiwan independence" and manage this issue with "caution." He also clearly defended China's position on maintaining national unity and territorial integrity.

The United States has a complex position on Taiwan, as it is the most important guarantor of Taiwan's security, but at the same time does not have official diplomatic relations with Taiwan and does not recognize it as an independent country.

Xi also told Trump that China will support the United States and Iran to return to negotiations as soon as possible. This comes as tensions in the Persian Gulf are rising and the two countries are currently in a tense situation.

Advancements in Cultural Relations

During this meeting, the spouses of Trump and Xi, Melania Trump and Peng Liyuan, also visited the National Museum of Asian Art in Washington away from their husbands. This visit was aimed at celebrating the cultural relations between the United States and China. Both spouses pay special attention to soft power and cultural issues.

At the museum, a children's choir welcomed the two women by singing famous Chinese folk songs. This meeting also marked the first public appearance of the two spouses in nearly a decade.

Trump, in his remarks to reporters after the discussions, said: "We had a very good meeting." Images from this meeting show that Chinese officials, including Li Feng, the Vice Premier, and Wang Yi, the Foreign Minister, were also present at the discussions.

Xi Jinping thanked Trump for his warm hospitality during this meeting and stated that his goal for visiting the United States is to "continue friendship, expand cooperation, and promote the welfare of the people of both countries."

Trump also told reporters during this meeting that he "takes pride in the U.S.-China relationship" and expressed hope that the two countries will continue their cooperation.

The discussions also addressed security, technology, and artificial intelligence issues, which are considered strategic priorities for both countries.

Given the rising tensions and the need for balanced actions in trade, this meeting could be seen as a positive step towards improving relations between the two countries.
