Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced the possibility of resuming negotiations with Iran in the coming week. These statements come as tensions between Washington and Tehran over the Strait of Hormuz continue and could change the fate of the Middle East war as it approaches its seventh month.

Trump Rejects Ceasefire Proposal

Trump has rejected Iran's seven-day ceasefire proposal, and Tehran insists on its conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Last week, Iran presented a plan at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which called for a seven-day ceasefire. Abbas Araghchi, Iran's Foreign Minister, explained this plan, calling for a halt to all hostilities in the Middle East and a return to the conditions of the previous ceasefire agreement.

However, Trump deemed this plan insufficient and rejected it. In conversations with the media, he stated, "They want to make a deal, but it's not the deal I want." He also pointed out that the Iranian side "put too many conditions on themselves" and added that he expects negotiations to resume. According to informed sources, indirect talks between Washington and Tehran may begin on Monday.

Strait of Hormuz and Complex Conditions

The Strait of Hormuz, as one of the most important chokepoints for global energy supply, has now become the main focal point of conflict between Washington and Tehran. This conflict began nearly seven months ago, and since then, Tehran has imposed restrictions on the passage of ships in this waterway, putting significant economic pressure on the global energy market.

Araghchi stated at the United Nations that Iran's conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz are clear, and any movement towards this goal is contingent upon meeting these conditions. In contrast, Mike Waltz, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, accused Tehran of making excessive demands to return to the negotiating table.

Despite Trump's expressed willingness to resume talks, the outlook for negotiations remains unclear. Washington is in a position where continuing the costly war is challenging, but retreat also seems politically difficult. Trump is seeking an achievement that he can present as a diplomatic victory to the American public.
